The Strelet Government at foreign level aims to pursue a consistent and balanced policy aimed at ensuring the European course and at strengthening the relations with the foreign partners. The successful implementation of the association agenda will enable the country to obtain the status of candidate for accession to the European Union, says the new Cabinet’s government program, quoted by IPN.
A foreign policy priority is to develop the strategic partnership with Romania for the European integration of Moldova. The multidimensional strategic relations of good neighborhood with Ukraine will also be strengthened, with emphasis on the European integration. The Government aims to advance the strategic dialogue with the U.S. and to foster the political dialogue with Russia with a view to normalizing the bilateral relations, including in the commercial-economic, energy and migration sectors.
The Strelet Government also aims to realize the cooperation potential with such countries as Canada, Japan, China, Turkey, Korea, Israel, India and Qatar and with other developing global and regional players and to develop the relations with the CIS member states, especially in the commercial-economic area with Belarus and Kazakhstan.
As to the relations with such international, regional and subregional organizations as the UN, OSCE, the Council of Europe, BSEC, SEECP and GUAM, the Government intends to take an active part in their activity so as to promote the national interests and priorities and to improve the image and restore the credibility of Moldova at foreign level.
As regards security and defense, the government program envisions the updating of the national security strategy so as to cope with the situation at international level, including by developing the cooperation with the EU in the area of common security and defense policy.
The new Cabinet aims to contribute to the Common Security and Defense Policy of the EU and to continue to cooperate with NATO within the Individual Partnership Action Plan, the Defense Capacity Building Initiative and other programs. The National Army will be gradually professionalized, including by increasing the number of servicemen on contract and developing the military information capacities.
