The efforts to work out the special legal status of the Transnistrian region within the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format will be continued by the future Cabinet. The government program for 2015-2018 envisions the promotion of a common view on the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict and the ensuring of a permanent dialogue with the foreign partners and international organizations with a view to supporting the process of reunifying the country, IPN reports.

The new Cabinet aims to stimulate the activity of the sector working groups for building confidence. An objective is to take measures to ensure the observance of human rights in Transnistria and the free movement of people, goods and services between the two sides of the Nistru River. There will be identified mechanisms for implementing the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement between the EU and Moldova in the Transnistrian region.

The role of the EU and the U.S. in the conflict settlement process will be strengthened. The new Government intends to cooperate with the EU and Ukraine in securing the Moldovan-Ukrainian border. The mandate of the EUBAM Mission will be extended and the cooperation with it will be intensified. The Government will further demand that Russia should unconditionally withdraw its troops and munitions from Moldova’s territory, in accordance with the constitutional provisions and the existing international commitments. The efforts to transform the current peacekeeping mission into an internationally-mandated civil multinational one will be continued.

Another objective aimed at reunifying the country is to attract assistance and expertise from foreign partners in order to promote the settlement process and implement humanitarian, social and infrastructure projects in the Transnistrian region. A communication platform involving media outlets and representatives of civil society from both sides of the Nistru will be launched with the assistance of the development partners. There will also be implemented programs to inform the Transnistrians about the essence of the policies promoted by the Government of Moldova and about the benefits of reunification.

The Parliament’s sitting where the Strelet Government is to be invested takes place on July 30, starting at 2pm.
