The new government program proposed by the candidate for Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanii is based on seven priorities, including: ensuring of the functioning of the state of law, integration into the EU, promotion of the foreign policy in accordance with the international norms, settlement of the Transnistrian dispute, efficient management of the economic crisis, immediate rehabilitation of the national economy, and the continuation of the policies aimed at supporting the youth.
“A program by name, but a manifesto in essence, this document represents the mandate of a Government, whose main role is to keep the Republic of Moldova on the map of the world. The perseverance with which this major achievement of our nation is lately attacked clearly determines the fundamental concern of the country’s Government,” it is said in the introduction to the program.
“The actions on which the Government will focus during this short mandate are determined by the specific features of the situation in Moldova and by the limited possibilities offered by the present legislative framework. At the same time, any action that the executive will take will be based on the economic and social policies pursued earlier and will constitute a launch pad for achieving the average-term development objectives. The Government will have to manage the country in extremely difficult conditions of economic crisis, intensified by the political instability in the country,” the program says.
The previous Government’s activity program titled “Progress and Integration”, which was adopted on March 31, 2008, had five major objectives. The first priority was to improve the quality of the governance. The other four priorities were: to strengthen the democratic institutions, ensure Moldova’s security and integrity, enhance economic competitiveness, and promote social inclusion. Then, the Government was invested by the vote of 56 MPs, 55 out of whom Communists.
Zinaida Grecianii was appointed Prime Minister by presidential decree on June 3. Under the Constitution, the Parliament confirms the Government by at least 52 votes of the 101. The Parliament is to decide today on the new composition of the Government and the government program.
