The former Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu obtained a shareholding in a national limited liability company and supplemented the family budget with about 800,000 lei whose origin is unclear. He allegedly increased his property with financial resources and real estate, using ill-gotten gains totaling about 4.5 million lei in August 2016 – March 2020, the National Anticorruption Center informed after announcing searches involving Andrian Candu on Tuesday, IPN reports.

The searches were carried out at the home of the ex-MP and in another three buildings owned by Andrian Candu. He was classed as a suspect and was questioned by anticorruption prosecutors. Investigation measures were taken yesterday morning, with criminal proceeding being instituted based on reports by the National Integrity Authority that examined Candu’s property and interests.

The ex-Speaker was the subject of searches conducted by NAC officers and anticorruption prosecutors in a criminal case started over unjust enrichment.

Andrian Candu entered Parliament in 2010 on the ticket of the Democratic Parliament. He served as Speaker between January 2015 and February 2019. In February 2020, he constituted the parliamentary group Pro Moldova, which later became a political party. In October 2021, Andrian Candu resigned as the president of the Party “Pro Moldova”.
