The Moldovans who will stay more than 183 days cumulatively during a year abroad from January 1 have to buy a health policy only for the period during which they will be in Moldova. If a person will be abroad for less than 183 days during a year, they will be obliged to purchase a health policy at its full price from any local office of the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) or the post office when they return.
Contacted by IPN, head of the Company’s press service Lilia Onea said they will determine the period of stay abroad based on the information provided by the Border Police.
The local offices of the CNAM will send letters to persons’ domiciles, urging them to purchase health policies. If they do not comply, the persons will be sued. As a result, they will have to pay the price of the policy, a fine of 1,000 lei and a penalty of 0.1% of the policy’s price for every overdue day.
The foreigners who come to Moldova will buy an optional health policy for the period they will stay in Moldova. Those who have the domicile in Moldova form part of the category of people who must obligatorily purchase a health policy individually. The CNAM recommends that they should buy the policy by March 31, at a discount of 50%.
In 2014, the mandatory health policy costs 4,056 lei, by 740 lei more compared than last year. The contributions paid into the health insurance fund were also raised – 4% for the ensured employee and 4% for the employer. The persons who purchase the health policy by themselves (patent holders, lessees, freelancers) can buy it at half price in the period between January 2 and March 31. Farmland owners benefit from discounts of 75% in the period. The health policies are already distributed through post offices or the local offices of the CNAM.
