The medically insured persons who suffer from glaucoma as from August 1 have access to three more drugs that are fully compensated with mandatory health insurance funds. The drugs with the common international names dorzolamidum, pilocarpinum and the combination timololum+latanoprostum are indicated in the basic treatment of high intraocular pressure or as an adjuvant in the case of patients who do not respond to treatment with other preparations against glaucoma, IPN reports.

The given medicines are sold as ophthalmic drops and will be available from any drugstore with which the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) signed a relevant contract, based on prescription from the family doctor.

About 4,000 people will yearly benefit from these new pharmaceuticals, said the National Health Insurance Company.

The list of compensated medicines indicated in the treatment of glaucoma is stipulated in Joint Order No. 605/133-A of 21.06.2022 on medicines and medical devices compensated with mandatory health insurance funds, which  signed by the minister of health and the CNAM director general.
