The second case of measles was confirmed in Moldova. As in the first case, the virus was brought from Ukraine. This time the disease was contracted by a seven-year-old girl from Rascani town, who in the first week of the new year travelled with her parents to Odessa town, where the measles epidemiological situation is unfavorable, IPN reports.
The Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection said the child was not registered at a medical institution in Rascani, does not attend an education institution and hasn’t been vaccinated against measles or other infectious diseases.
On February 5, the mother went to the Consultative Center of the Balti Municipal Clinical Hospital together with her daughter and this was admitted to the contagious diseases section. After receiving treatment, the patient was discharged in a satisfactory state.
At the end of January, a case of rubella was confirmed in Glodeni, in a child aged seven months. This was the first case recorded in Moldova during the last four years.
The Ministry warns the population to take all the measures to prevent measles as the epidemiological situation in the neighboring countries Ukraine and Romania is unfavorable. Vaccination is the only method by which measles and other infectious diseases can be prevented.
The level of primary vaccination among children nationwide decreased from 94.4% in 2008 to 88.3% in 2015.
