The second attempt of the Communist faction to convene an extraordinary session of Parliament wasn’t successful either. As on January 20, the lawmakers of the parliamentary majority didn’t come to the January 24 sitting. As a quorum wasn’t present, the meeting didn’t take place. The Communist MPs accused their colleagues from the pro-European coalition of violating the Parliament’s Regulations and the constitutional norms and of usurping the state power, IPN reports.

Speaker Igor Corman replied that the MPs of the parliamentary majority decided not to take part in a show staged by the Communists. The parliamentary commission on mass media will yet discuss, at a public meeting, the subject proposed by the Communist faction for debate in the extraordinary session of the legislature. Shortly afterward, the commission will submit proposals for amending the Broadcasting Code.

As to the second issue suggested by the Communists for discussion in the extraordinary session, Igor Corman said a working group was created to examine a number of aspects of the budgetary-fiscal policy, including the changes that provide for the capping of the local taxes and the annulment of some of them. The working group will suggest solutions for keeping a balance between the interests of the local public authorities and of the economic entities.

At the request of the Communist faction, an extraordinary session of Parliament was set for January 20. It failed because of lack of a quorum. Parliament was to pronounce on the situation created in the mass media sector following the exclusion of three TV channels from the cable networks at the beginning of this year.

The ordinary session of Parliament starts on February 3.
