New attempt to gather Chisinau Council fails on June 17

The crisis in the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) has not happened because of Mihai Ghimpu or Eduard Musuc. The problem is that the things are orchestrated by the PCRM (Communists), some local councilors said on Tuesday, June 17, after the second attempt to gather the CMC, failed because of lack of quorum, Info-Prim Neo reports. The sitting was convened by Mihai Ghimpu. The councilors from the factions of PCRM, PPCD (Christian-Democrats), PSD (Social-Democrats), PCUM (Christian-Humanists) and the representative of Ravnopravie, 28 all in all, have not turned up. “It's not the PSD's problem. The PSD has too few votes to make such a game. The question is about the position of the PCRM that the PSD joined to. It is not fair to explain the dispute between PSD and PL (Liberals) through the misunderstandings between Mihai Ghimpu and Eduard Musuc,” said the leader of the Liberal-Democratic faction, Alexandru Tanase. According to him, attention should be to the way in which the CMC will further work, in the circumstances where there is another majority. “In the long run, people are not interested in the conflicts in the CMC. People want the municipality to go well, they want clean streets, light on streets. These projects cannot be approved of as long as the CMC is divided and gathers in separate sittings,” Alexandru Tanase added. Corina Fusu, the leader of the PL faction, considers that “the Gordian knot” related to the vote of June 6, when a part of councilors voted for the dismissal of Mihai Ghimpu, can be untied only by the Parliament by interpreting the law. On the other hand, Alexandru Tanase says it is not a proper step, since it is a complicated procedure that can last for months. “We do not have time, and it is not the case to wait for the ca Parliament to construe the law. A political crisis cannot be solved through legal arguments,” he said. Pavel Caba, the leader of Moldova Noastra Alliance faction, has suggested the factions to get together and reach a solution as to the way of holding the 19 June sitting, so that the CMC be functional. Caba has pleaded to invite the Social Democrats to the discussions, especially after articles in the press that the PSD has not left the Democratic Coalition. In response, Liberal Mihai Ghimpu has said no talk can further be about a democratic coalition including the PSD. “Since the moment they collaborated with the Communists, the PSD is not in the coalition any longer,” Mihai Ghimpu said. According to him, a coalition means parties respecting the obligations established in the very beginning and respecting the separation of powers within. Or, according to initial arrangements, the position of the CMC president rests with Mihai Ghimpu, and the PSD does not want this any longer through its declaration and vote of June 6. Mihai Ghimpu has said the PSD's vote of June 6 proved the futility of setting up alliances and coalitions with structures engaged in the past, but also in the present with the Communist regime. “They have always had a single purpose, the one to be in power, to eat honey and caviar,” Ghimpu stated. On Fridau, June 6, dual power installed in the CMC. The PCRM-PPCD-PSD group and allies elected Eduard Musuc as CMC president by 27 votes, while their opponents go on recognizing Mihai Ghimpu as president. Another CMC sitting convened by Mihai Ghimpu for June 10 failed because of lack of quorum. Eduard Musuc convened a sitting for June 19.
