New arrests made in drug distribution case

Four more persons were arrested on suspicion that they sold drugs on the territory of the country. The suspects, including the organizers of the criminal scheme, are investigated in the case concerning trading in drugs to the value of over 2.5 million lei in which a man aged 29 was arrested earlier, IPN reports.

According to the General Police Inspectorate (GPI), after the 29-year-old man who is suspected of selling drugs through Telegram was arrested, the special investigation measures continued. As a result, another man, aged 33, was arrested. He is from the municipality of Chisinau and allegedly worked as a cab driver.

“By order of a person from the Transnistrian region, he transported a quantity of 1,200 grams of amphetamine which were packed in zip lock bags and hidden in an alcohol box. The value of the found drugs on the black market is estimated at approximately 1 million lei,” said the GPI.

Following the additional measures taken, a 31-year-old man from Uzbekistan was caught red-handed. The role of this was to distribute drugs to secret places in the capital city.

On September 25, the organizers of the criminal scheme – a man aged 31 from the Transnistrian region and a citizen of Ukraine aged 35 – were arrested on drug distribution charges with the assistance of special investigations officers.

As a result of searches in the car by which the two were travelling, three mobile phones and €7,500 that was allegedly gained from illegal drug trade were seized.

Drug distribution caries imprisonment of seven to 15 years and ban on holding particular posts or performing particular activities for a period of two to five years.
