The emergency medical assistance subdivisions of Chisinau received over 36 new Mercedes ambulances of type B on November 26. In the handover ceremony, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said the Government set the goal of increasing the quality of the emergency medical service, including by purchasing modern ambulances of European type, IPN reports.

The Premier said the authorities want those who work in the emergency medical system to enjoy more comfortable working condition and to serve with pleasure as the ambulances are part of their workplace. The units of transport were bought with state funds. In parallel , a European loan was raised to purchase 170 vehicles of the same category. “This example of investment we make today perfectly matches the logic of the reforms we do in the health system. We started with the public health and now speak about primary medical assistance and the hospital reform concept,” stated  Pavel Filip.

Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Silvia Radu said one of the 36 ambulances will reach the Mother and Child Institute. The others will be distributed to emergency medical assistance subdivisions in Chisinau municipality, where 96% of the ambulances are worn-out. A part of the ambulances that are to be bought with the €12 million loan offered by the EBRD will be delivered to Moldova by this yearend. The new vehicles will enable to renew about 80% of all the ambulances in the country.

Svetlana Gaitur, doctor of the emergency medical assistance station of Râșcani district, said the ambulances handed over today will enable to provide high-quality medical assistance for the population. Safer conditions are being created for transporting patients to hospitals and for the specialists on duty.
