Moldova will negotiate with Russia a new agreement on vegetal product safety after a decision to this effect was adopted by the Moldovan Government on Wednesday, IPN reports.
On the Moldovan side, the National Agency for Food Safety will undertake to improve the quality of products exported to Russia. Further, six standardization centers will be engaged in verifying and certifying the safety of goods of vegetal origin destined for exportation to the Russian market.
The Moldovan government hopes the new agreement will contribute to a rise in agrifood exports to Russia and boost economic relations between the countries. Russia is a leading trade partners for Moldova. In the first half of 2013, trade with Russia amounted to roughly $200 million, up 24% on the similar period last year.
