The Republic of Moldova will receive about 27 million dollars from the International Fund For Agricultural Development (IFAD). Six million are offered as a grant for the implementation of a new project. The topic was discussed during a meeting attended by the Minister of Finance, Natalia Gavrilița, and IFAD Associate Vice-President Donal Brown.
According to a Ministry of Finance press release, the project will grant financing to small and medium-sized farmers for access to irrigation systems and rehabilitation of access infrastructure to agricultural lands. The project will support the establishment of groups of agricultural producers by financing sub-projects for creating the infrastructure for agricultural production. Additionally, it will provide new business ideas to entrepreneurs who are launching businesses in the agricultural sector, with the involvement of a loan guarantee fund, through co-financing in the form of a grant.
The collaboration between the Republic of Moldova and IFAD began in 1999. To date, the fund has supported six projects and a program in Moldova. 134 808 Moldovans are beneficiaries of the joint collaboration. The financing value amounts to $196.8 million, of which IFAD provided $109.2 million.
In Moldova, IFAD assistance aims to increase the incomes and improve living conditions of rural people. The funding activities target small owners and farmers, small-scale animal producers, rural women and young people from different areas of the country.
