The neutralisation of about 1,400 tonnes of obsolete and interdicted pesticides will be complete this March, Constantin Mihailescu, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, told a Government meeting, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Constantin Mihailescu, an inventory made to identify obsolete and forbidden pesticides on soil surface revealed the presence of 3,300 tonnes of such hazardous products, imported in the 80’s. Minister of Defence Vitalie Vrabie said that over the years 2003-2007 the Ministry repacked, deposited and disposed of 1,245 tonnes of such pesticides from 14 districts of the country. Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev instructed relevant government offices to join all their efforts in implementing successfully the action plan, in order to complete inventorying the stock of pesticides on the territory of Moldova and to accelerate their stockpiling, repacking, transporting and neutralisation. The Action Plan on repacking, transporting and stockpiling obsolete and interdicted pesticides covers the years 2005-2010.
