Nemteni village on alert: at least 170 houses flooded

At least 170 houses were flooded in Nemteni village of Hancesti district after the Prut River overflowed its banks. Prime Minister Vlad Filat traveled to the scene to analyze the situation.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, mayor of Nemteni Gheorghe Mardare said the floodwater reached the homes yesterday at about 10pm.
According to the secretary of the mayor's office Valentina Doronceanu, in some places the floodwater is 2-3 meters in depth. Many of the 170 houses run the risk of collapsing. The water continues to advance. Access to the affected area is only by boat.
Dorina Cruc, spokeswoman for the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, said the Commission for Emergencies was convened immediately.
The village Cotul Morii is also in danger of being flooded.
