After the first round of negotiations on the formation of a government coalition that would invest the new Government, the sides said the beginning was promising. However, according to the negotiators of the PDM, if the discussions had started from the preconditions set at the previous talks, things would have advanced quicker, IPN reports.

Liliana Palihovich, deputy head of the Liberal Democratic Party, told the journalists that at the first round of talks they discussed the objectives, stages and consistency of the negotiations. “The sides need time to formulate amendments to the agreement on the creation of the government coalition. A clear wish to negotiate dynamically was established today. There are the preconditions needed to form a government coalition. At this stage, there were imposed no conditions,” stated the negotiator.

The head of the Council for Reforming the Liberal Party Ion Hadarca said the negotiations had a constructive and promising beginning. They agreed to hasten the next rounds of talks. “We think there is a constructive dialogue climate. Over the next few days, we will discuss definite problems. We already have suggestions to the draft agreement proposed by the PLDM,” he stated, adding that there are preconditions for creating a majority that would ensure the implementation of the initiated reforms.

The negotiator on behalf of the Democratic Party Valeriu Lazar said it was a good start. “We presented our position that we must vote in a Government. We do not need just a Government, but a stable parliamentary majority. We want this coalition to be not just coexistence, but a veritable coalition with communication mechanisms as communication was a problem faced by the previous coalition,” he said.

The Democrat also said that from his viewpoint, the discussions should have started based on the preconditions set at the previous negotiations. “The PDM does not want additional posts. We want to be sure that the future Government will be functional till the end. We do not impose conditions. As such an approach leads nowhere. If certain new elements that hamper the discussions are eliminated, we will move on very quickly,” stated Valeriu Lazar.

Last week, the PLDM presented a draft agreement on the formation of a Pro-European Government Coalition. Under this agreement, a number of agencies will be controlled by the Government, while the Premier will be able to dismiss ministers.

The next round of talks will be held on May 22.
