New informal consultations on the Transnistrian dispute in the “5+2” format are taking place in Moscow today, September 22. The date of the consultations was set after a meeting of Prime Minister Vlad Filat and the Transnistrian leader Igor Smirnov held in Germany, where they discussed the prospects of resuming the permanent official Transnistrian conflict settlement talks, Info-Prim Neo reports.
After the meeting, Vlad Filat voiced hope that the official talks may be reopened after the informal consultations in Moscow. “This is our objective. The most important thing now is to resume the official talks. I’m optimistic about the prospects after September 22,” said then the Premier.
The last consultations held in Moscow on June 22 were suspended owing to the inflexible position of the Transnistrian delegation. The participants agreed then to interrupt the round of consultations and carry out additional discussions.
