Ombudswoman Tamara Plamadeala is hopeful the bill with amendments concerning the punishment of parents who neglect their children will be drafted by autumn. “We are working with a law expert so as to modify the legislation in the best way possible. The adults' negligence leads to the injuring or even death of children. These acts must be punished,” Tamara Plamadeala stated for Info Prim Neo. Among the major amendments are the inclusion of an article allowing depriving the persons of their parental rights for a particular period of time in the Criminal Code, and of a clause concerning punishment with arrest. Amendments will be also proposed to the Law on Children's Rights. “The parents who abandon their small children and those who go abroad and do not see their children during many years should also be punished,” Tamara Plamadeala said. The legislation does not provide for the punishment of the persons who fail to take care of children. A relevant example is the case that happened recently in “Andries” camp in Orhei, where two children were sexually abused by an elder mate, but the institution's administration wasn't penalized, the ombudswoman said.
