About 56% of the persons who migrate from Moldova are young people and they migrate became of the transition period through which the country goes. Even so, migration has positive effects too as the young people develop and gain experience. Such an opinion was stated by officials in a conference held to mark the International Youth Day that this year has the theme “Youth Migration: Moving Development Forward”, IPN reports.
Deputy Minister of Education, Youth and Sport Sergiu Stanciu said the Government is making effort for the young people to work in the country, but youth migration also represents benefits to the economy and stimulus for developing the country. The young people return to the country with development potential and work experience that is afterward put to good use.
UN acting resident coordinator Antonio Polosa considers that youth migration is a natural phenomenon. “There is nothing strange in the fact that the young people try to find a different place in life,” he stated, adding that the young people who return home have a competitive advantage of knowledge and experience. He said the negative factors of migration are generated by the difficult economic situation of the young people and the authorities should take definite steps in this respect.
According to the acting head of the National Youth Council Eduard Mihalas, a positive factor of youth migration is the academic mobility and experience exchange programs promoted by the European countries. “Coping with migration, the young people come home with new ideas and rich expedience,” he stated.
About 320,000 people emigrated from Moldova last year. Of them, 56% are people aged between 15 and 34. At global level, the young people represent 10% of the about 200 million migrants.
