Inspectors from the Russian veterinary watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor discovered and seized 1,820 kilograms of meat on the passenger train no.342 on the route Chisinau-Moscow, the agency said in a press release posted on its website.
According to the agency, the meat was being transported in unsanitary conditions and lacked proper documentation.
Effective from July 5, Rosselkhoznadzor imposed a ban on processed meat exports from Moldova, citing violations of sanitary rules and Customs Union requirements by Moldovan companies. Only exports of whole, halves and quarters of pork, veal, mutton, and horse carcasses are allowed.
