The Ciocana branch of the Chisinau City Court on March 11 decided to place vice governor of the National Bank of Moldova Ion Sturzu in remand detention for 30 days, at the request of prosecutors. The information was confirmed for IPN by the spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General’s Office Maria Vieru.
Last week, the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office carried out criminal investigation measures at the NBM in connection with the bank fraud case. As a result, a current vice governor, a former vice governor and a division head of the Bank were arrested.
Later, the court decided to place ex-vice governor Emma Tăbârță, division head Ion Ropot and former governor Dorin Drăguțanu in remand detention for 30 days. It also decided that vice governor Aureliu Cincilei will be investigated outside remand detention, but he was banned from leaving the municipality of Chisinau.
