In April, the situation on the foreign exchange market improved. The net demand for foreign currency from economic operators was 67.6% covered by the net supply of foreign currency from individuals, the National Bank of Moldova reported.
As a result of foreign exchange transactions with individuals, a net foreign exchange offer of $127.4 million was recorded. At the same time, the net demand for foreign currency from economic operators amounted to $188.5 million.
In April, the NBM intervened on the local interbank market through both procurement and foreign currency sales, with net sales of 0.05 million dollars recorded for the whole month.
The Moldovan leu depreciated in April by an average of 0.3% against the US dollar, to 18.4274 lei for 1 dollar, compared to 18.3739 lei for a dollar in March.
Taking into account inflationary expectations and market developments as a result of the increase in energy prices, as well as the geopolitical situation, the NBM carefully monitors developments and will intervene through its monetary policy to create adequate conditions in the monetary, credit and foreign exchange markets.
