The governor of the National Bank of Moldova Octavian Armașu is sure that a new program with the International Monetary Fund will not be signed be by the end of this year. According to him, owing to unfavorable initiatives like the repealing of the law on the issuing of state bonds for the Ministry of Finance to fulfill the payment obligations deriving from the state guarantees or the “billion law”, the IMF will have to take a step back. Also, the eventual negotiations with the IMF will be much more difficult, IPN reports.

In an interview for the press, the governor said that among the actions that were to be taken by the national authorities after the Moldovan authorities and the IMF representatives in July 2020 agreed an economic reform program at the level of experts were the amendment of the legislation for strengthening the National Bank’s independence and the appointment of new vice governors of the NBM by Parliament.

Alexandru Savva was proposed for his post back in May 2020, when a post of vice governor fell vacant. When two most posts of vice governor became vacant later in July, two more candidates were proposed to Parliament. The three candidates are very good specialists and upright, responsible persons who can work for the benefit of the state and the people. Parliament hasn’t yet approved all the candidates.
