A number of items on display at the Museum of Ethnography and Natural History have come to life thanks to an augmented reality application called “Find the Deinotherium”. It is an immersive museum experience that combines the prehistoric age with the latest technology and is designed to attract more visitors. The application was developed under the Museums of the Future Program and launched at the museums on Tuesday. To download the app, the visitors need scan a QR code.
“Step by step, our museum is approaching the American film ‘Night at the Museum’, in which the museum items become mobile. I also hope that our Deinotherium will become very active, as the public, the children especially, will be able to discover the most important pieces from the museum’s collection in Romanian and English, which is important both for visitors from the country and for those from abroad”, said Petru Vicol, director of the Museum.
Andrei Chistol, state secretary at the Ministry of Culture, stated that this application represents an educational experience for both children and their parents who will come to the museum with them. “This application will contribute to a more beautiful and modern promotion of the invaluable assets presented in the museum”, said the official.
The project was carried out in collaboration with Artcor and COR Creative Industries Association, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, with the support of USAID, Sweden and the UK. The application “Find the Deinotherium” will be available in the museum from October 3.
