The natural disasters occurred in Moldova in 2007 generated losses of about MDL 71 mln. 203 persons suffered as a result of the emergency situations and fires. Head of Emergency Situations Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Andrei Sumleanschi told the Republican Commission for Emergency Situations on June 27 that there were reported 55 emergency situations and 1156 fires in January-May. 8 natural disasters were registered in the period June 1-25, including hail, storms, and fires on sown fields. To avoid casualties and material damages, generated by fires or other emergency situations, it was tried to improve this year the skills of the bodies which work in this field. Also, several prophylactic actions on the anti-fire technique will be undertaken, as well behaviour trainings in case of other emergency situations will be organised. PM Vasile Tarlev mentioned during the meeting that most of the actions planned for the first quarter of 2007 were carried out. At the same time, for a fast response in case of emergency situations, including natural disasters, the head of the Government asked the responsible persons to organise a round-the-clock service and to create operative intervention groups to liquidate the consequences of natural disasters.
