The NATO Liaison Office in Chisinau will be officially opened at the beginning of December. The inaugural ceremony will involve NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller.

The evolution of the relations between Moldova and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization was examined in a meeting of Prime Minister Pavel Filip and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Brussels, on the eve of the Eastern Partnership Summit of November 24-25, IPN reports.

Jens Stoltenberg reiterated that the NATO Liaison Office will have only civil employees and this will work to support the dialogue and cooperation between NATO and Moldova. “This liaison office shows the importance that NATO and Moldova attach to the common partnership. NATO supports a stable, secured and neutral Moldova,” stated Jens Stoltenberg.

For his part, Pavel Filip said the opening of the NATO Liaison Office in Moldova will give a new impetus to the bilateral activities and will contribute to strengthening the potential of cooperation with NATO. “This step shows the determination and wish to accelerate the pace of reforms defined in the Government’s activity plan, which is designed to strengthen the security and defense sectors of the Republic of Moldova,” stated the Premier.

The agreement to open the NATO Liaison Office in Chisinau was signed last November. The opening of the center was put off for several times for technical and infrastructure related reasons.
