The NATO Information and Documentation Center in Moldova opened the second school “NATO in the 21st Century – Challengers, Trends and Prospects”. Thirty-five young people will have the possibility of taking part in different debates, simulation games and discussions on subjects concerning the Moldova-NATO relations, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The NATO school is open to master's degree applicants and students. During eight months, the participants will meet with officials ad experts in the field and will examine the challenges faced by the transatlantic community and its partners at the start of the 21s century.
Acting director of the Center Vitalie Grosu said they are considering the possibility of organizing the school every year. It will include seminars, debates, public lectures on topics regarding the NATO's security policy, international security and the reform of Moldova's security system.
According to him, the major aim of the school is to contribute to the formation of the opinions of those who attend this school as regards the national security, the status of NATO as guarantor of peace and stability and the international security.
“I'm sure that the knowledge of the NATO's role and its security polices and strategies will help create conditions for establishing a sustainable partnership inside the Moldovan society and between the state institutions of Moldova,” Vitalie Grosu said.
He also said that now that the threats to the security are a challenge not only to separate countries, but to the entire mankind, the international cooperation is very important as it can help solve many security-related problems.
Alexandru Popa, student of the State University of Moldova, the International Relations Faculty, considers that NATO should not be regarded as a threat to Moldova, but as an opportunity for politician cooperation. “The society should understand that this cooperation is not necessarily military and it does not produce negative effects,” he said.
