The nationality of parents will be excluded from the birth certificates of children. A bill to this effect was passed by Parliament by a majority of votes. The child’s nationality will be indicated only at the request of the parents or the children, when they reach 16, IPN reports.
Deputy Minister of Justice Vladimir Grosu said the bill aims to ensure the person’s right to self-identification by offering the possibility of deciding by oneself the nationality or ethnical affiliation that is written in the civil status document at the person’s request.
The costs of making the new type forms total over 342,000 lei. The money was earmarked in the financing plan and the public procurement plan of the Civil Status Service for 2013.
