The national women’s tennis team of Moldova at Fed Cup began to train for the tournament. The team guided by captain Andrei Andreev consists of Daniela Ciobanu, Iulia Helbet, Alexandra Zaicenco and Vitalia Stamat. Moldova’s team will travel to the Montenegrin town of Ulcinj on April 6-7, several days before the tournament, so as to adjust to the field and the weather conditions, IPN reports.
According to a press release of the Moldovan Tennis Federation, Moldova will compete in Europe/Africa Zone Group III of the Fed Cup World Championship. This group includes Algeria, Angola, Armenia, Cameron, Congo, Cyprus, Greece, Island, Ireland, Kosovo, Luxemburg, Macedonia, Madagascar, Malta, Montenegro, Morocco, Mozambique, Norway, and Tunisia.
All the teams will be divided into four groups of five teams that will compete between them based on the circular system. The winners of the group will compete in the playoff round to earn qualification for Group II.
The matches start on April 11 and will last until April 16. The meeting of captains and the draw will take place on April 10.
