The 22nd edition of the National Wine Day is marked in the Great National Assembly Square. It is a crossroads event that takes stock of the accomplishments of the past few years. It is also a call for solidarity to the industry and all the people who in time became involved and contributed to developing this sector, the director of the National Office of Vine and Wine Elizaveta Breahnă said in the inaugural ceremony, IPN reports.

She noted that the wine industry is not only a business with a significant economic impact. It is also the soul of the Republic of Moldova, the expression of the national culture and identity. This industry ensures 16% of the value created in the agrifood sector, with its exports representing 8% of the external trade balance and generating about 3% of the GDP. “The Republic of Moldova is the 14th largest wine exporter in the world. Most of the made wine is exported and reaches over 75 countries. This is the top reason for which tourists are visiting the country and the number of tourists grows annually,” stated Elizaveta Breahnă.

Attending the inauguration, President Maia Sandu said this edition’s slogan “Our Wine Conquers the World” reflects one of the best news brought by the year 2023 to Moldovan winemakers. The Moldovan wines, sparkling wines and cognacs are increasingly popular in the world, delighting those who discover their taste and fineness. “Today we export five times more wine to the European Union than in 2012,  while our winemakers’ efforts to meet the exigencies of a more dynamic sector attracted the attention of costumers and sommeliers from all over the world,” stated the official.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vladimir Bolea said that in confirmation of the fact that the Moldovan winemaker and winegrowers are exceptional, it was decided that the largest congress of all winemakers and winegrowers will be held in the Republic of Moldova in 2025. This fact confirms once against that the Republic of Moldova is a global producer and it is an extraordinary opportunity to show the country’s wine processing and making capacities to the whole world.

EU Ambassador to Moldova Jānis Mažeiks noted that the National Wine Day is the most emblematic holiday of Moldova, which is famous in the country and outside it. The EU supported the Republic of Moldova so that its wine products enjoy full liberalization on the EU market and this thing happened due to the courage and ambitions of winemakers and the good quality of the Moldovan wines.

On October 7 and 8, the Great National Assembly Square will bring together over 90 winemakers under the umbrella of the national brand name “Wine of Moldova”.
