The National Water Supply and Sanitation Project, finished on March 18, contributed to the construction of over 150 km of networks in villages. There were also built or rehabilitated 12 artesian wells with a storage capacity of about 1,300 cubic meters, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Ministry of the Environment, about 19,000 people and 5,500 households from rural areas benefit from centralized water supply services as a result of the implementation of the National Water Supply and Sanitation Project.

“The project represents only a first step towards the development of the settlements. We will not stop here. We will propose another partnership to jointly implement projects to construct sewerage systems,” Minister of the Environment Gheorghe Salaru said in the project completion event.

The activities of the project’s rural component started in 2011, under a partnership between the Ministry of the Environment, the World Bank, the implementation unit and local mayor’s offices. The funds designed for investment projects in villages were allocated as grants.
