The national Under 18 football team of Moldova didn’t manage to score victories in this year’s tournament in memory of the former FIFA vice president Valentin Granatkin, IPN reports.
After drawing with Estonia, Finland and Russia, the team trained by Veaceslav Rusnac lost the last match of the group stage to Kazakhstan 0-1. Thus, Moldova ended group B on the last-but-one place and will further struggle for the ninth position at the competition held in Saint Petersburg. The final will take place on January 12, starting at 6pm.
This is the 28th Granatkin memorial tournament. So far the competition has been won 18 times by Russia, four times by Germany and by one time by Belarus, Finland, South Korea, Italy and Japan. Moldova’s national U-18 team has taken part in the competition for the third time.
