The National Theatre “Mihai Eminescu” launches two new plays on the occasion of the World Theatre Day. This is the debut of a movie and a theatre director. The troupe considers the plays will shock the world of theatre through their novelty, charm and the way the actors perform, Info-Prim Neo reports. Art director of the National Theatre Sandu Cozub told a news conference on March 20 that the plays “The Door” by Matei Visniec and “In Snake Skin” by Tennessee Williams, directed by Vitalie Drucec and Valeriu Jereghi are challenging not only for the theatrical world but also for the administration of the theatre which decided to refresh the repertory with untraditional plays. “The Door”, grounded on human feelings and existential problems, was previously staged only in Botosani and Bucharest. Vitalie Drucec considers that the play outlines the life before the door leading to another dimension. The characters have to acknowledge their sins, mistakes and to regret the failures or the unfulfilled plans, but they hope that beyond the door they will manage to become different persons – better, more tolerant and humane. Drucec says that the author Matei Visniec was surprised that the play considered by him “quite complicated” is being staged in Chisinau. For his part, Valeriu Jereghi said that the administration of the theatre showed temerity, offering to a movie director the possibility to stage a play at the National Theatre. The play “In Snake Skin” is a well performed compilation between theatre and movie proving talent in both fields. Jereghi considers that the actors from Moldova have a lot of unexplored artistic potential, which could be successfully turned to good account in the European cinematography. Moreover, the director says that Moldova is a region, where many original talents are born. Jereghi says that “In Snake Skin” is a love story which does not fit the clichés of the daily life, a deeply human theme. In the fight between life and death, the death is the winner, and the play answers the question “why is death the winner?”, the director says. The actor Ion Mocanu mentioned that he had a great experience working with the director Valeriu Jereghi who works in detail with each actor separately managing to unveil the most hidden feelings of the characters. “The Door” will be for the first time presented on March 24 and 25 in the Studio Hall “Valeriu Cupcea”, and “In Snake Skin” – on March 30 and 31 in the Great Hall of the National Theatre “Mihai Eminescu”.
