The national tennis team of Moldova had a very good start at the Davis Cup. It qualified for the second round of the Europe/Africa Zone Group II. Radu Albot again played a decisive role after scoring victories in the two simples matches and in the doubles, alongside Maxim Dubarenco, IPN reports.
Albot won the most important victory on February 2, when he met the best player of Egypt Mohamed Sowfat. The Moldovan tennis player lost the first set by 2-6, but then spectacularly won the next tree sets by 6-3, 6-4, and 6-4. This was the eighth consecutive victory in the Davis Cup for Radu Albot.
“Sincerely, I didn’t expect to win three matches against Egypt. It’s hard to play games of five sets three days in a row. I’m very glad,” Radu Albot said after the match.
Also on February 2, Maxim Dubarenco took revenge for the defeat suffered the first day and beat Sheriff Sabry by 6-7, 6-4, and 6-4.
In the next round of the Davis Cup Group II, Moldova will meet Belarus, which won against Ireland 4-1 in the first stage. The matches will take place between April 4 and 6 in Chisinau.
