Moldova’s national tennis team was defeated 1-4 by the similar team of Hungary within the first qualifying round of the Davis Cup Europe/Africa Zone Group II, IPN reports.
In the first match on March 8, Moldova’s best tennis player Radu Albot lost to Hungary’s No. 1 Marton Fucsovics, who thus helped Hungary to qualify for the second round of the competition. Albot was beaten in three sets by 2-6, 1-6, 2-6.
In the last game, with no stake, Andrei Ciumac was substituted by Maxim Bulat. The 17-year-old player made thus his debut at the Davis Cup. He was defeated by Gabor Borsos 0-6, 3-6. In the second qualifying round, Hungary meets Bosnia and Herzegovina, while Moldova faces Zimbabwe and will make effort to remain in the Davis Cup Europe/Africa Zone Group II.
