The national roads are prepared for the cold season at a steady pace, acting Deputy Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Vitalie Rapcea said in the November 18 meeting of the acting Cabinet, IPN reports.
Thus, the roads are managed and maintained through the agency of 14 enterprises S.A “Drumuri” (“Roads”). A number of 483 vehicles and pieces of machinery will be involved in snow removal and antiskid material spreading works. These are now 85% ready for the works. Depending on the needs, S.A “Drumuri” will sign direct contracts with local economic entities so as to additionally engage snow removal equipment.
As many as 177 vehicles were outfitted with GPS systems so that they are appropriately used on the national roads.
The estimates of the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure show that about 80,000 tonnes of antiskid material are needed for the 2015-2016 cold season. Approximately 23,000 tonnes of antiskid material and 21,000 tonnes of sand have been stored so far. Technical salt is being purchased to prepare another 20,500 tonnes of antiskid material.
There are 40 video cameras monitoring the state of traffic in winter on the national and local roads. There were identified the road sections where snow piles form most often. Snow fences will be set up there on a distance of 43 km. According to the latest data, the marking works on the national roads were about 60% carried out.
