“Defend the people, not the usurper”, “Don’t guard the thieves”, “Follow us as they rob you too”. This is what members of the National Resistance Movement ACUM chanted during a protest staged in front of the head office of the Special Police Brigade “Fulger”. The protesters called on the police officers to be near the people and not to defend the leader of the Democratic Party Vlad Phatohniuc and guard the party’s head office in the protests mounted near these buildings. Similar protests were held in front of 20 district police inspectorates on July 16, IPN reports.

Vice president of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPPDA) Inga Grigoriu told the police officers that time has come to make use of the legal provisions and not to fulfil the orders that go against their duties and to take sides with the citizens. “We came to peacefully transmit the message to be near the people and to defend the people, not the usurper,” she stated.

PPPDA vice president Kiril Motpan said what is happening now in Moldova represents a state crime. “It is a drama, a tragedy of the citizens. We will not have a future if we allow this group to remain in power. We will continue to be untied and solidary so that we remove this criminal government,” he noted.

According to the secretary general of the Party “Action and Solidarity“ (PAS) Igor Grosu, such a state of affairs cannot last long. “History knew even fiercer dictators and in all the cases the dictators experienced a bad ending,” he said.

On July 9, members of the National Resistance Movement ACUM picketed the Ministry of the Interior and the Chisinau City Hall in a flashmob event.

The National Resistance Movement ACUM was created in reaction to the decision to invalidate the early mayoral elections held in Chisinau and has among its leader heavyweights of the PAS, PPPDA, the Liberal Democratic Party and active representatives of civil society.
