Increased safety and swiftness could be ensured in the vaccination process from now on. The National Public Health Agency today received a lot of 15 vehicles donated by the European Union and the World Health Organization. The offered support is designed to increase the mobility of doctors of the Agency’s local centers in the promotion of vaccines and immunization. Representatives of the EU assured that the Union will further support Moldova to modernize its health system, IPN reports.

“We aim to improve the infrastructure of all the public health centers as no repair works had been performed at these centers during 25 years but the doctors of these centers are those who should promote sanitary measures in localities. We want to improve the infrastructure conditions of local labs by providing modern equipment. The mobility of public health specialists is a very important element. They are in charge of large areas and their responsibilities include the supervision of different players,” said Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco.

Representatives of the WHO and the Delegation of the European Union said that by such donations, Moldova’s development partners aim to encourage the vaccination process and to offer the doctors the possibility of traveling faster to all the localities in the country.

“This donation will enable the NPHA to align itself with the best quality standards in the process of supplying vaccines to the Republic of Moldova. We want to have 95% immunization coverage for ordinary vaccines included in the National Immunization Program, primarily as regards the vaccination of children. This rate of 95% enables to ensure sanitary-epidemiological wellbeing and to control serious infectious disease. We want a higher COVID-19 vaccination rate given that the number of new cases has increased the past four weeks. Vaccination is an efficient method for preventing serious cases and hospitalization,” said the representative of the WHO Office in Moldova Stela Gheorghiță.

“During the pandemic, the European Union offered the Republic of Moldova a number of lots of medical equipment and personal protective equipment. There were also offered 15 vehicles for transporting vaccines. These vehicles are needed for transporting vaccines and also for supervising the vaccination process,” said Gintautas Baranauskas, of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova.

For the purchase of the 15 vehicles, the EU allocated
3.7 million lei. The event forms part of the technical activities planned under the partnership between the European Union and the WHO Regional Office for Europe to support the deployment of COVID-19 vaccines and vaccination and to strengthen routine immunization systems in the six EaP countries - Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.
