Thirty-six new traffic surveillance cameras were set up on February 10 as part of the first stage of the national program to modernize the public and road safety system, ten of which in the capital city, IPN reports.
Alexandru Putere, director of the Information Technology Service of the Ministry of the Interior, in the launch of the program said that half of all the offenses in public places are committed on the roads.
There were set up 23 new surveillance posts. Five of them are in the municipality of Chisinau, while the rest are in the country’s districts.
The system will monitor the violations committed by drivers. The information about the license plates and names of vehicle owners will be processed and official reports will be printed automatically.
After 6-12 months, there will be launched the second stage of the program in which the road traffic monitoring will be extended to cover other national roads. The monitoring system in Chisinau will also be modernized.
