National Opera House named “Maria Biesu”

By a Government decision, the National Opera House in Chisinau was given the name of the people’s artist and holder of the Order of the Republic Maria Biesu, Info-Prim Neo reports. Throughout her life, Maria Biesu sang the main arias of the operas of the National Opera House repertoire. Though she was invited to work abroad, the great singer chose to remain in the country, but promoted the image of the national opera and of the country abroad. Since 1997, Maria Biesu had managed the International Festival “Maria Biesu Invites” that will mark 20 years of the launch this year. By presidential decree, May 19 was declared a Mourning Day in memory of the National Opera Prima Donna Maria Biesu.
