The National Ballet and Opera House will celebrate 50 years of foundation between October 2 and 14. According to the Opera House director general Andrei Lozovan, on the occasion of the jubilee the spectators will enjoy three new performances: the opera “Don Giovanni” by W.A. Mozart directed by Eleonora Constantinov, the ballet “Luceafarul” (“Star”) by Eugen Doga under the choreography of Gheorghi Kovtun from Saint Petersburg and the ballet version of “Requiem” by W.A. Mozart under the choreography Boris Eifman from Saint Petersburg. At a news conference on September 24, Andrei Lozovan said that the preparations for the jubilee have lasted for a year and a half, time during which they repaired soloists’ rooms, the ballet hall and the orchestra stand, the water, power and heating systems using the about 20 mln lei allocated from the budget. From now on, the spectators will not watch the performances dressed in coats in winter, Andrei Lozovan said. The official opening of the Gala dedicated to the anniversary on October 2 includes the launch of the first book about the Opera House titled “The National Ballet and Opera House – 50 years”, written by Aurelian Danila and Elfrida Coroliova. The book contains all the over 100 performances staged on this scene. The public will be invited to see a film about the institution’s history. According to director Eleonora Constantinov, in the second part of the festive performance, the Opera House will be congratulated by the guests and artistic groups of the country in a theatrical-concert manner. An exhibition of theater costumes will be set up in the building’s hall. A gala concert that will include all the soloists of the National Opera is scheduled for October 14. From this year, the Opera House will stage by two performances a year, an opera and a ballet one, including operas for children.
