The National Olympic and Sports Committee conferred awards on the best sportspersons of 2018 in the Olympic Dinner staged on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the institution, IPN reports.
World Greco-Roman wrestling vice champion Victor Ciobanu was named best male athlete, while world and European youth wrestling champion Anastasia Nikita best female athlete. Nikita didn’t attend the event as she is competing in the India Team Championship. The trophy was handed over to her coach Tudor Cârlan.
The award “Talent of the year” had two laureates: Greco-Roman wrestler Alexandrin Guțu and swimmer Tatiana Sălcuțan, who both won gold at the Youth Olympic Games of Buenos Aires.
The Olympic Dinner is held at the start and at the end of the year to celebrate the Olympic spirit and values and brings together athletes, coaches, state officials and journalists.
