A newly created national network will work to promote the rights of the persons with disabilities. Keystone Moldova held the first National Conference of Self-Authorized Representatives entitled “Listen to me! I also have something to say”, IPN reports.

According to the organizers, the persons with disabilities consider their participation in the life of the communities of which they form part is crucial. The network of self-authorized representatives consists of persons with disabilities from different regions of the country and represents a framework where the self-authorized representatives will combine efforts to protect and promote the rights of all the persons with disabilities, especially of those with intellectual disabilities.

The goal of the network will be to disseminate the message that the persons with disabilities not only have necessities, but also rights and abilities. Project coordinator Natalia Cojocaru said the members of the network of self-authorized representatives will exchange ideas and working experience in the area of promotion and protection of the rights of persons with disabilities, will plan and carry out joint activities so as to have a greater impact on the quality of life of persons with disabilities nationwide and will struggle to make themselves heard.

Tamara Andries, a member of the group of self-authorized representatives of Falesti, said the persons with disabilities have the same rights as any other Moldovan citizen. Regretfully, these persons are subject to an increased risk of marginalization, abuse, discrimination and social ignorance.

The conference ended with the signing of a resolution on the creation of the National Network of Self-Authorized Representatives of Moldova.
