The Government of Romania will make a donation of €1 million to the National Museum of Arts of Moldova. The money will be used to restore the museum. The announcement was made by the Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta within a visit paid to Moldova on the occasion of the Independence Day, IPN reports, quoting in a communiqué of the Government’s press service.
“The support for culture on both banks of the Prut is essential for keeping the national identity and for educating the new generations. Any leu spent for culture, Romanian or Moldovan, is a well-invested leu. I hope this support will contribute to the reopening of this museum so that the works of art are exhibited again for the public,” stated Victor Ponta.
Moldovan Premier Iurie Leanca said namely culture was affected in the periods of transition. Therefore, the support provided for completing the works to restore this institution is very important. “I’m convinced that this museum will become an institution where children, young people and our guests will come to see the nicest things,” he stated.
The works to repair the museum started in 2003.
