The national men’s chess team won a victory in the last stage of the European Team Chess Championships that took place in Greece. Moldova beat the last-ranked Kosovo with a difference of three points, IPN reports.
At the competition held on the island of Crete, Moldova also beat Greece and the Faroe Islands and drew with England and Switzerland, but lost to Israel, Austria, Azerbaijan and Slovakia. In the final rankings, Moldova took the 29th position out of 40 teams. The competition was won by Azerbaijan.
The Moldovan team included grand international masters Viorel Bologan, Dumitru Svetushkin and Vladimir Hamitsevich, international master Nikita Morozov and FIDE master Andrei Macovei.
