National Library’s program on Eminescu’s birthday

The National Library of Moldova celebrates 165 years of the birth of poet Mihai Eminescu by a cultural program that includes exhibitions, recitals and film screenings, IPN reports.

On January 14, one day before the poet’s birthday, there will be opened the exhibition “Eminescian values – 165 years of the birth of Mihai Eminescu, national poet, prose writer, publicist, translator, philosopher, member of the Romanian Academy”. It will be staged in the library’s big hall. The same day, there will be opened the exhibit “In memoriam. Eminesciana of Pavel and Clara Balmus of Moldova’s National Library” and presented Mihai Eminescu’s book “Poems”, Titu Maiorescu edition.

Also on January 14, the Chisinau-based Romanian Cultural Institute “Mihai Eminescu” will mount the exhibition “Veronica Micle – a legendary name, 165 years of the birth of the Romanian poetess Veronica Micle” in the library’s gallery “MoldoFacciatta”.

On January 15, when Mihai Eminescu was born, there will be shown the documentaries “Assassination of Eminescu – shocking truths”, “Eternal love - Mihai Eminescu and Veronica Micle” and “Mihai Eminescu – great Romanians”, in the library’s hall.

There will be also presented a collection of notes of romantic songs on Mihai Eminescu’s poems. An exhibition by plastic artist Ion Daghi and a recital of poetry will be staged in the big hall of the library.

Romanian poet, prose writer and journalist Mihai Eminescu was born on January 15, 1850.
