National Library to host exhibition on fight against human trafficking

The National Library during July 30 – August 7 will host an exhibition centering on the fight against trafficking in human beings, which is considered a major obstacle to the democratization of society. The exhibition consists of about 80 publications from the Library’s collections, which raise awareness of trafficking in persons, IPN reports.

The documents are classified into three sections. The first section, “Trafficking in human beings, pain of the 21st century”, analyzes the mechanisms and forms of manifestation of this phenomenon that infringes on the basic human rights and marks the life and health of victims.

The section “Fight against trafficking in human beings, key necessity of contemporary society” reflects the national stagey for preventing and fighting human trafficking for 2018-2023, its main principles, the institutional framework and the duties of the authorities dealing with trafficking in persons.

The section “Trafficking in persons, national and international problems” focuses on the normative documents on trafficking in human beings and gender equality in Moldova, migrants’ vulnerability to trafficking in human beings and human exploitation in the Republic of Moldova.

The event is held in connection with World Day Against Trafficking in Persons that is annually celebrated on June 30. The World Day Against Trafficking in Persons was instituted by the UN General Assembly in 2013.
