National Library launched “Give a book for physically and socially disadvantaged people” campaign

The National Library of the Republic of Moldova between April 15 and May 15 will carry out a campaign entitled “Give a book for physically and socially disadvantaged people”. The community is urged to donate new books or books in good condition, children’s books, coloring books, board games, which will be then distributed to people in need. The event is organized as part of the National Program LecturaCentral, the 2024 edition, IPN reports.

This year, activities will be organized for users from old people’s homes, the temporary placement center “Territory of Adolescence”, the Rehabilitation Center for Children with Disabilities “Casa speranței”, the Theoretical Technological High School for the blind through the agency of 25 writers, experts/25 meetings. Also, the initiative “Reading unites us”, in cooperation with penitentiary institutions, will continue its educational and cultural activities with the involvement of writers/experts.

The National Library aims to provide access to reading and information to people facing physical or social difficulties by promoting equal access to education and culture, combating isolation and social exclusion, but also by promoting inclusion and diversity. It also aims to stimulate interest in reading and lifelong learning and to raise public awareness of the needs and rights of disadvantaged people.

“Community members, private individuals, budgetary institutions, entrepreneurs, businesspeople, publishing houses, libraries of the National Library System, etc. from the Republic of Moldova are invited to join the campaign through donations, which will be distributed to individuals or institutions, such as retirement homes, children’s homes, individuals from communities, etc.,” reads a press release of the National Library.

Book donations are collected by libraries and will later be forwarded to people in the community.
