Original and facsimile manuscripts of the 16th - 20th centuries and documents written on parchment dating from the epoch of Stephan the Great were presented in the exhibition area of the Book Museum of the National Library. The exhibition was mounted on the occasion of the International Handwriting Day and can be visited free until June, IPN reports.

According to the director of the National Library Elena Pintilei, the International Handwriting Day is marked to remember the beauty and uniqueness of handwriting, which became a rarity in the information age. Today’s event is educative and for the first time brings together real masterpieces of medieval handwriting that are kept in the collections of the National Library and the National Archives Agency.

National Archives Agency director Elena Frumosu noted that the exhibited documents were written in Latin script after 1858. Their value is inestimable and they need to be restored. In this connection, Elena Frumosu called on the persons who can to contribute to the restoration of these documents.

Graphician Valeriu Herța stated that the calligraphy course in Moldova is taught at the Academy of Music, Theater and Plastic Arts and at the Faculty of Plastic Arts and Design of the State Teacher Training University “Ion Creangă”.

The International Handwriting Day is celebrated on January 23.
