Over the course of the European Day of Languages, the general public and, in particular, people interested in studying European languages will be able to visit at the National Library (BNRM) the "Discover the world through languages" thematic exhibition. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about European language policies and multilingualism in Europe. BNRM collection materials related to methods, tools and manuals will be available to the general public.

BNRM general director Elena Pintilei said that the exhibition's purpose is to raise public awareness regarding the linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe. She said that the exhibition will reflect the the European diversity of multiculturalism and multilingualism and will raise awareness about European cultural heritage.

Elena Pintilei said that the exhibition will integrate five parts: the European approach to linguistic policies, the linguistic diversity of Europe, the French language, the English language and the German language. Publications, albums, manuals, dictionaries, CDs and factual information are used for this purpose. The exhibition will cover the entire available space of 10 exhibition showcases from the Library's first floor.

Additionally, between 14:00 and 17:00, four info points will be made available. The info points will provide information and will guide interested persons in opportunities to study English, German, French and Hungarian.

The third floor of the BNRM will be designated for the "Multilingual space for language learning" program, where a series of simultaneous language demo lessons for the development of language skills will take place over the course of one day. The lessons will be taught by learning specialists from partner organizations and language learning promoters, such as META, the French Alliance and the German Cultural Center AKZENTE. The demo lessons will take place between 16:30-17:30.

All activities will take place on Friday, September 25, in the central Library building, in compliance with anti-COVID-19 measures and norms of protection.

The exhibition is dedicated to the European Day of Languages, which is celebrated annually on September 26 in each of the 47 member states of the Council of Europe, starting with 2001.
